United States Army General and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley (pictured) said on Friday that the Ukrainian counteroffensive against Russia is going slower than expected but still noted the Ukrainian army is making advances "steadily" and "deliberately."

Speaking at the National Press Club, Milley stated he himself is not surprised that the counteroffensive is moving slower than anticipated. "Ukraine is fighting for its life ... It goes a little slow, but that is part of the nature of war," he stressed.

The US official also stated it is still "too early to tell" if the recent Wagner Group rebellion in Russia weakened the country's President Vladimir Putin.
