Shares of the biotechnology company Moderna Inc. dropped over 13% during Monday's premarket hours following the news that the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) top vaccine official, Peter Marks, had resigned.
According to a Department of Health and Human Services representative on Friday, Marks, who led the FDA's vaccine division, was presented with an ultimatum to either resign or be fired. A source close to the situation informed NBC News that the Trump administration had forced his departure.
The firm's stock plunged 13.56%, going for $26.76 apiece at 7:36 am ET.
