Moderna Inc. signed an agreement with its Chinese partners that will allow the American pharmaceutical giant to develop and manufacture mRNA medicines in China, The Global Times wrote on Wednesday.
"Any medicines produced under this agreement will be exclusively for the Chinese people, who face many of the same health challenges that affect other communities around the world, and will not be exported," Moderna's Senior Director for Media Relations and Communications Luke Mircea-Willats said in the interview with the Chinese newspaper.
According to Mircea-Willats, the agreement aims to improve people's access to medical care in China by addressing "unmet needs and enhancing the ecosystem of medical solutions." Moderna's stock was up 1.25% in the premarket hours.
