Moldova confirms military equipment supply from EU

Moldovan Defense Ministry said on Friday that it is receiving "light arms for military units participating in peacekeeping operations" from the European Union, as part of the bloc's support package worth €40 million announced in June. The ministry stated supplies of artillery units are also under consideration as the current equipment is "inherited from Soviet times."

The ministry stated that it is maintaining dialogue with all partners and has "an open channel of communication with the military representatives of the Russian Federation." The Moldovan government insists on a diplomatic resolution to the issue of the separatist state of Transnistria and currently does not see "high risks" of the situation in the region escalating.
