The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (FAVT), also known as Rosaviatsiya, announced on Thursday all of Moscow's four airports, as well as the one in the nearby Kaluga, were temporarily closed.
"To ensure the safety of civil aircraft flights, temporary restrictions have been introduced on the operation of Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, Zhukovsky and Kaluga airports. The airports are temporarily not accepting or sending flights," the statement read. "Aircraft crews, air traffic controllers and airport services are taking all necessary measures to ensure flight safety – this is the main priority."
Although the circumstances were not specified, it is likely that the decision was made due to poor weather conditions.
