Billionaire Elon Musk's X Corp., formerly known as Twitter Inc., sued on Friday California over its legislation that requires businesses to give explanations about how they moderate their content.
In the lawsuit, X alleged that California is trampling on the company's First Amendment rights as it "compels companies like X Corp. to engage in speech against their will," while also interfering "with the constitutionally-protected editorial judgments" of a business.
Musk's company went on to say that these laws put pressure on businesses, making them "remove, demonetize, or deprioritize constitutionally-protected speech that the State deems undesirable or harmful." This, according to X, puts "an unjustified and undue burden" on companies.
