Billionaire Elon Musk revealed on Sunday that SpaceX intends to launch some five uncrewed Starships to Mars in the next two years.
In a post on X, Musk said that if the uncrewed spaceships land successfully, "then crewed missions are possible in four years." Otherwise, the crewed missions will have to be postponed for another two years.
"It is only possible to travel from Earth to Mars every two years, when the planets are aligned. This increases the difficulty of the task, but also serves to immunize Mars from many catastrophic events on Earth," Musk explained. However, he stressed that SpaceX aims to "enable anyone who wants to be a space traveler to go to Mars."
