Myanmar's acting President Myint Swe, who came into power after the military overthrew the elected civilian government of Aung San Suu Kyi in February of 2021, died after a long illness at the age of 74.

Myint Swe passed away at a military hospital in the country's capital city of Naypyitaw a year after taking medical leave from his duties, the Associated Press reported, citing Myanmar's military information office.

Meanwhile, former President Win Myint and Myanmar's de facto leader before the 2021 military coup, Aung San Suu Kyi, remain in their now over 4-year-long custody.
