Myanmar earthquake death toll exceeds 1,700

The number of fatalities in the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on Friday has risen to 1,700, according to the ruling junta's estimates released on Sunday. At least 3,400 people have been injured and around 300 are missing.

The death toll is expected to increase further as rescue services have not reached all impacted areas. The earthquake also hit neighboring Thailand, killing at least 17.
