North Korean state media Korean Central Television warned on Sunday of a serious epidemiological situation involving the spread of COVID-19, seasonal influenza and other respiratory viruses. It called for containing infections by closing off borders and the coast until the end of the crisis.
"Even into the new year, there are still no signs of the malignant contagious disease situation being resolved. As it has rather worsened due to the emergence and spread of variants with stronger immune evasion capabilities, the quarantine situation is very unstable," the outlet said, according to South Korea's Yonhap.
