Former British Conservative Cabinet member Sajid Javid announced on Friday that he will not run for his fifth reelection as member of Parliament in the next general election. In a written statement, he said he "wrestled" with the decision "for some time" and that it "will not mark the end" of his parliamentary activity.
Javid served as MP for Bromsgrove since 2010 and ran for the Tory leadership in 2019 and 2022. He has also played prominent parts in successive British governments, including as home secretary and health secretary during the COVID-19 pandemic. He was also one of the shortest-serving chancellors of the exchequer at only 204 days under Boris Johnson.
