NATO’s Support and Procurement Agency announced on Wednesday that it will back a coalition of nations, including Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, and Romania, with a contract for a purchase of up to 1,000 Patriot Guidance Enhanced Missiles (GEM-T) in order to help allies to reinforce the protection of their territories in times of intensified Russian attacks on Ukraine.
"The contract includes qualification of updated components, addition of new suppliers, test equipment, and spares to support future sustainment. Other user nations are expected to benefit from the conditions of the contract," NATO said in a statement.
Additionally, the AP reported, citing defense industry sources, that the contract value could reach $5.5 billion.
