Russian Deputy Chair of the Security Council and the former President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, noted on Tuesday on his Telegram channel that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will not accept Ukraine as its new member, referring to such development of events as ''a direct result of a special military operation.''
Medvedev stressed that the security guarantees could have been provided to Kiev only by reaching an agreement with Moscow, however, the Ukrainian government, ''stimulated by Western money and missiles, refused it.'' There are no security guarantees for the current leaders of Ukraine and there will never be such a thing, the politician added, claiming that no neighbors can give any guarantees to Kiev, ''even if they fiercely hate Russia.''
The war in Ukraine started in February this year after the West refused to pull back its forces from the Eastern European countries that had joined the alliance after the Cold War. Furthermore, Russia also demanded that the West provide guarantees that Ukraine will never become a member of NATO.
