The United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched a preliminary evaluation of 2.4 million vehicles belonging to Tesla Inc., a document showed on Friday.
Under affected cars are Model S, Model X, Model 3, Model Y and Cybertrucks equipped with the Full-Self Driving (FSD) system. "The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has identified four Standing General Order (SGO) reports in which a Tesla vehicle experienced a crash after entering an area of reduced roadway visibility conditions with FSD -Beta or FSD -Supervised (collectively, FSD) engaged. In these crashes, the reduced roadway visibility arose from conditions such as sun glare, fog, or airborne dust," NHTSA detailed.
While one of the crashes ended in a fatality, another one caused an injury. With this evaluation, NHTSA hopes to assess whether the FSD system can respond appropriately to reduced roadway visibility conditions; whether more accidents in similar circumstances have occurred; and if Tesla made any modifications to the system.
