The United States National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Francis Collins (pictured) stated on Sunday that public officials should push unvaccinated Americans more in order for them to get the vaccine.

Collins said that he believes officials need to use "every public health tool," adding that the country is facing an upswing in the number of deaths recorded daily. Moreover, he lamented that vaccines and mask-wearing have become a political issue, saying that the country shouldn't be "polarized about a virus that's killing people."

Earlier in the week, the White House said it was supportive of the announcements by businesses to impose vaccine mandates on their employees, as President Joe Biden stated that almost all new COVID deaths were preventable.
