Nasdaq plummets 2% as new outage hits Microsoft services

Stock exchanges in New York continued to fall on Tuesday, with the Nasdaq 100 registering the steepest decline prompted by CrowdStrike Holdings Inc.'s 12% plunge following the news that Microsoft Corporation's 365 services and cloud service, Azure, were hit by another outage.

The downbeat sentiment was further fueled by anticipation of corporate earnings by America's biggest tech giants.

The Nasdaq 100 plunged 2.05% and the S&P 500 fell 1.12%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average stood flat at 1:02 pm ET. Microsoft stock declined 1.95% after the problem with its services, with the company preparing to unveil its financial results for the fourth quarter after the closing bell today.

Nvidia Corporation's stock shed 7.83%. Meta Platforms dropped 1.66%, Apple Inc. lost 0.91% and Amazon.com Inc. slid 1.77%. The euro traded 0.06% lower against the dollar, changing hands to 1.08145.
