Likud, the party of Israel's incoming Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said on Friday it signed a preliminary coalition agreement with the far-right Jewish Power (Otzma Yehudit) party.

Under the agreement, Jewish Power leader Itamar Ben-Gvir (pictured) will be appointed minister for national security, while his party will also get the Ministry for the Development of the Negev and the Galilee, which will be separated from the Social Periphery Ministry. "We took an important step tonight to establish a full right-wing government," Ben-Gvir stated after signing the deal.

Earlier this month, Israeli President Isaac Herzog asked Netanyahu to form a government after his bloc secured a majority in parliamentary elections.
