Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (pictured right) and Defense Minister Israel Katz (pictured left) plan to replace Israel Defence Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi by the end of the implementation period for the ceasefire with Hezbollah, Israel's KAN news agency reported on Friday, citing diplomatic and security sources.
According to the report, the reason why Netanyahu and Katz want Halevi to step down is that they believe he was responsible for preventing the October 7 attack by Hamas. The army chief would step down at the end of the 60-day transition period stipulated by the ceasefire agreement when the IDF is supposed to withdraw its forces from southern Lebanon.
Earlier today, the Times of Israel reported that Halevi indicated he will not resign until the military completes its investigation into the October 7 attack.
