Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara hosted US House Speaker Mike Johnson and his wife in a West Bank settlement of Shiloh on Monday, Netanyahu's office confirmed in a statement issued Tuesday.

The gathering included a joint dinner attended by US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee and his wife, along with Republican lawmakers Michael McCaul, Claudia Tenney, Michael Cloud, and Nathaniel Moran.

Johnson's visit to a West Bank settlement is highly unusual for a senior US official. According to Axios, the Republican delegation is in Israel on a private, previously confidential trip.
