Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed disappointment over German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's decision to embargo arms to Israel on Friday. "Instead of supporting Israel's just war against Hamas, which carried out the most horrific attack against the Jewish people since the Holocaust, Germany is rewarding Hamas terrorism by embargoing arms to Israel," Netanyahu's office said after a call with Merz.
He stressed that his government doesn't plan to "occupy Gaza" but to "free Gaza from Hamas." "Gaza will be demilitarized, and a peaceful civilian administration will be established, one that is not the Palestinian Authority, not Hamas, and not any other terrorist organization," Netanyahu added.
His response comes after Germany halted sales of military equipment to Israel if used in the Gaza Strip, following the Israeli cabinet's approval of a takeover plan.
