Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra confirmed on Sunday that the Netherlands joined the list of countries that will evacuate diplomatic staff from Sudan due to the rapidly deteriorating security situation. It has closed its embassy in Khartoum, the minister added.

"An operation by several countries to evacuate citizens from Sudan is ongoing. The Netherlands is participating with a team from Jordan. They will do all they can to get Dutch people out of there as quickly and safely as possible ... We deeply sympathize with the Dutch in Sudan and will continue our efforts to evacuate people where and when possible," Hoekstra said in a series of Twitter posts.

Saudi Arabia and the United States also evacuated their personnel from Sudan, where clashes between rival armies resulted in dozens of civilian deaths and hundreds of additional injuries.
