Nippon's US Steel bid reportedly hinges on Biden

A United States government review board could not agree on Nippon Steel's proposed $15 billion purchase of US Steel, leaving the decision to President Joe Biden, the Washington Post reported on Tuesday.

Both companies confirmed that the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) had reached a deadlock over concerns about national security implications.

President-elect Donald Trump voiced opposition to the deal, so this leaves Biden with under a month to decide before Trump takes office.
