North Korea fired several cruise missiles into the Yellow Sea on Wednesday, Yonhap reported, citing information from South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).
"While strengthening our monitoring and vigilance, our military has been closely coordinating with the United States to monitor additional signs of North Korea's provocations," the JCS stated in a text message sent to reporters, referring to the launch.
This newest missile launch by Pyongyang came amid rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula, following the country's recent test of an "underwater nuclear weapon system." It also comes after Pyongyang bashed a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting concerning North Korea's earlier launch of an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) armed with a hypersonic warhead.
