North Sea ship captain charged over crash

The Russian captain of the Solong container ship involved in the collision with the Stena Immaculate oil tanker, which left one person dead, was charged with gross negligence and manslaughter on Friday, Humberside Police said.

He will appear before the Hull Magistrate Court tomorrow, the police added. Stena Immaculate, sailing under the flag of the United States, was transporting jet fuel for the US military.

The investigation subsequently identified the victim as a 38-year-old Filipino national. In addition, 36 crew members aboard the Solong and the Stena Immaculate were rescued, including American, Russian, and Filipino nationals.
