Nvidia warns of global impact of Biden's AI diffusion rule

Nvidia's Vice President of External Affairs Ned Finkle criticized Monday US President Joe Biden's administration's "AI Diffusion" rule, warning it jeopardizes global progress. He described it in a statement as a "misguided" move that "threatens to derail innovation and economic growth worldwide."

The rule, which is supposed to be revealed today and which he called a "200+ page regulatory morass," would impose bureaucratic control over US technologies and limit competition. While framed as an "anti-China" measure, he argued the rule would actually weaken US competitiveness and undermine innovation. He also praised the upcoming Trump administration, noting it would promote policies that reinforce the US leading role in AI.

On January 9, The New York Times reported that the Biden administration is pushing new regulations to control AI development. The rules would allow US allies to buy AI chips freely but block adversaries like China and Russia, aiming to ensure Washington's dominance in the market.
