French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal shared on Sunday during a press conference that he will step down from his post.
"Even though we had three times better results than it being envisaged, it doesn't mean that it's a majority. I will submit my resignation to [French] President [Emmanuel Macron] tomorrow morning," Attal detailed. The decision comes following initial projections from the country's election, which see the New Popular Front taking the lead and gaining 172-192 seats in the National Assembly, with Macron's centrist alliance coming in second with 150-170 seats.
Meanwhile, the current head of state said he won't be making any decisions until the final results have been released.
