Euro area's PPI up by 0.4% in December

Producer prices in the Eurozone increased by 0.4% in December compared to November, according to a report by Eurostat released on Wednesday. The producer price index (PPI) grew by 0.4% on a monthly basis in the European Union as well. Annually, the PPI was unchanged in the euro area and up by 0.1% in the EU.

The Eurozone saw the biggest monthly rise in industrial producer prices for energy at 1.4% and durable consumer goods at 0.2%, while prices for intermediate goods, capital goods and non-durable consumer goods added 0.1%. Year-on-year, producer prices for energy dropped 1.7%. Meanwhile, non-durable consumer goods prices increased by 2%, capital goods by 1.4%, durable consumer goods by 0.8% and intermediate goods by 0.1%.
