The historic Copenhagen Stock Exchange building, Borsen, has lost its distinctive 56-meter 'Dragon Spire' as the structure caught fire on Tuesday, which authorities are still trying to contain.
Local police informed on its X account that traffic was being diverted and encouraged people to remain distant from the building as the evacuation process took place. No injuries have been reported.
Images and videos shared on social media showed authorities trying to save pieces of art that were held in the building. Danish Culture Minister Jakob Engel-Schmidt regretted the loss of "400 years of Danish cultural heritage in flames." "How touching it is to see how the employees at Borsen, good people from the emergency services and passing Copenhageners work together to rescue art treasures and iconic images from the burning building," he added.
