The surge of infections with COVID-19 Omicron variant in the United States is inevitable, US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Director Dr. Anthony Fauci said during a press conference on Friday.
Fauci urged the citizens to get a booster dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, as the newly-detected strain is "beyond doubt" more transmissible than its predecessors. According to the data presented during the briefing, Omicron has been detected in 39 states so far.
Asked whether the COVID task force will recommend a shorter waiting period between the second vaccination and the booster dose, Fauci said that "all options are on the table all the time."
