Ontario Premier Doug Ford revealed on Thursday that he had reached an agreement with Canada Prime Minster Mark Carney not to respond with countermeasures on the United States imports before April 2.

However, Ford told reporters that Canada has received no assurance from the US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on the potential softening of tariffs but still had a "good conversation" with him. The prime minister's office confirmed the conversation with Ford had taken place, as Carney is expected to announce Ottawa's response to US-imposed auto tariffs soon.
