OpenAI announced Thursday the launch of Stargate UAE, its first global deployment of the AI infrastructure platform Stargate. The move is coming in partnership with G42, Oracle, Nvidia, Cisco, and SoftBank.

According to the company's announcement, this is also the first deal under "OpenAI for Countries," a new global initiative to aid governments in developing "sovereign AI capabilities" in cooperation with the US, "rooted in democratic values, open markets, and trusted partnerships."

The investment consists of a 1 GW Stargate cluster in Abu Dhabi, with 200 MW expected to be operational by 2026. Additionally, it includes UAE investments in the US Stargate infrastructure, enhancing the "Acceleration Partnership" program between both countries. This deal has the potential to provide the Emirates with computing capacity that can reach up to half of the world's population within a 2,000-mile radius.
