OpenAI targets nonprofit for alleged Musk links

OpenAI has filed a complaint with California's Fair Political Practices Commission, accusing the Coalition for AI Nonprofit Integrity (CANI) of breaking state lobbying laws and secretly working with Elon Musk, according to documents obtained by Politico.

OpenAI claimed CANI failed to report lobbying payments connected to a California bill that could have blocked the company's business restructuring plans. The complaint suggested CANI tried to hide its true funders and leadership, possibly to protect rival interests. It questioned whether CANI's listed president is a real leader or a front.

According to the report, CANI denied any link to Musk and called itself a grassroots group.
