Oracle Corporation is currently the main contender to play a key role in running TikTok in the United States, The Information said on Thursday, citing investors, bankers and former executives briefed on the matter.

According to the sources, TikTok's parent company ByteDance favors Oracle as the main character in a potential deal that would see a US company helping with TikTok operations in the country, with US President Donald Trump also supporting this. Nonetheless, ByteDance still wants a "hands-on role" in any kind of agreement.

Sources added that the Chinese firm is hoping the reigning government greenlights a deal "based on the contours of Project Texas." TikTok and Oracle collaborated on the project, with the former describing it as "an unprecedented initiative dedicated to making every US user on TikTok feel safe."
