Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban told Radio Kossuth on Friday that his country might veto the European Union's budget unless it is granted additional funds for the period of 2027–28.
Orban also demanded that Brussels unfreeze Hungary's funds worth €12.5 billion, which he said will only be enough to keep the country's economy afloat until the end of 2025. Still, he expressed his firm certainty Hungary will get the money in question, stressing that "there is absolutely no point in worrying about" it.
Orban's comments came after Politico reported the EU will continue to freeze Hungary's funds due to its alleged violations of the rule of law, which do not align with the bloc's politics. Brussels first passed such a decision in 2022.
