The Pakistani military has resumed shelling in the Afghan province of Khost, targeting Taliban positions, prompting the Afghan military to retaliate early Friday morning.

The regional governor's press service confirmed that the Afghan army "decisively repelled" the attack, Tolo News reported. It stated that the Pakistani army fired mortars at four villages along the border between the two nations. No injuries have been reported so far.

This development follows Pakistani airstrikes against the Taliban in late December last year, which killed 46 people, leading Afghanistan to condemn the strikes as an act of aggression against the civilian population.
