Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Abdelhafiz Nofal confirmed Tuesday that Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas (pictured) will attend Victory Day celebrations in Moscow on May 9. According to Nofal while speaking with RIA Novosti, an official letter was sent to the Kremlin confirming Abbas’s participation.
His attendance comes amid renewed violence in Gaza, where nearly 800 people have died within a week following Israel’s resumption of military operations after breaking a ceasefire with Hamas.
Abbas last met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Kazan on October 24, 2024, during the BRICS Summit. His most recent visit on August 13, 2024, took place outside Moscow.
