Pam Bondi was sworn in as the 87th United States attorney general on Wednesday after the Senate voted to confirm her in a 54-46 vote on Tuesday.
Bondi served as the Florida attorney general from 2011 to 2019. She is a member of the Republican Party. US President Donald Trump nominated her for the position after his initial nominee, Mat Gaetz, withdrew his bid.
She stated that she will work to restore the confidence in the Department of Justice (DoJ) and end what she described as "partisan weaponization" of the justice system, echoing previous statements by Trump calling for the end to the persecution of political opponents which he blamed on the previous administration.
