Panasonic Holdings plans to make a multibillion-dollar investment in a second US electric vehicle battery factory in Kansas to provide a new high-capacity battery for Tesla, Nikkei Asia reported on Wednesday.

Panasonic seeks to triple or quadruple electric vehicle battery output capacity by fiscal 2028, from the current level of approximately 50 gigawatt-hours per year.

The move comes after Tesla opened a second electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Texas in April to meet strong demand.
