Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo underlined on Monday that the decision to schedule early elections ahead of the summer Olympic Games in the French capital is "extremely unsettling."
"Like a lot of people I was stunned to hear the president decide to do a dissolution (of parliament)," the mayor stressed, noting that she was "worried" by the European parliamentary result which saw a crushing result for the ruling Renaissance party.
The two-round parliamentary elections in France have been scheduled for June 30 and July 7, just weeks before the Paris Olympics kick off on July 26.
