Meta Platforms Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Friday the launch of a digital clothing store, which will allow Facebook and Instagram users to purchase fashion outfits for their avatars.
According to his statement made on an Instagram live broadcast, the designer brands that will initially participate in the launch are Balenciaga, Prada and Thom Browne. Meta, however, plans to make this virtual store an open marketplace for all entrepreneurs to create and sell outfits.
Earlier in April, Meta revealed its plan to take nearly half of the profits creators made on digital goods and services inside its metaverse platform Horizon Worlds.
