Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt announced a recount in the state's Senate election after the result of the ballot was too close to call. Incumbent Democratic Senator Bob Casey and his Republican challenger Dave McCormick are less than 0.5% of the total vote apart, triggering an automatic recount according to state law.
McCormick is currently in the lead with 3,380,310 votes or 48.93%, while Casey got 3,350,972 votes or 48.5%. The recount must start by November 20, with results set to be published on November 27.
