Artificial intelligence startup Perplexity made an unsolicited offer on Tuesday to purchase Alphabet Inc.'s Google browser Chrome for approximately $34.5 billion.
The company told the Wall Street Journal that it managed to secure funds from several investors in order to make the offer that nearly doubles Perplexity's valuation, which is currently estimated at $18 billion. The news outlet shared a quote from Perplexity's letter to Google CEO Sundar Pichai, saying that its bid is "designed to satisfy an antitrust remedy in highest public interest by placing Chrome with a capable, independent operator."
Earlier this year, during a testimony in the Department of Justice's antitrust case against Google, Pichai stated that forcing the company to sell its assets or share data with competition would affect the company's business and development.
