Peru's Public Prosecutor's Office announced it has launched preliminary proceedings against former President Pedro Castillo, who was arrested earlier. Castillo attempted to dissolve the country's congress on Wednesday and declare a state of emergency, before being impeached and replaced by Vice President Dina Boluarte.

The Public Prosecutor's Office stated Castillo is accused of rebellion against the powers of the State and constitutional order. The office added that he could be "alternatively" investigated for conspiracy.
