Volkswagen is calling for negotiations to prevent a trade conflict after US President Donald Trump imposed new tariffs on imports from Mexico, Canada, and China. The German automaker, which relies heavily on its Puebla, Mexico plant for US exports, warned of potential supply chain disruptions and competitiveness disruptions.

"We are assessing any potential effects on the automotive industry and our company," Volkswagen said in a statement, adding that it hopes for "constructive talks" to ensure economic stability.

The German car lobby VDA called the tariffs a major setback for global trade, warning of potential job losses in Germany and Europe. The auto industry is bracing for potential retaliatory measures as tensions rise.
