The Congress of the Republic of Peru declared on Thursday Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) persona non grata.

During the polling, 65 congressmen voted in favor of the proposal, 40 voted against it, and two abstained. The Congress went on to ask the interior and foreign ministries to ensure Lopez Obrador "does not enter the Peruvian territory." According to Congresswoman Maricarmen Alva, this decision will not affect the relations between Peru and Mexico.

The vote came over what has been perceived as Lopez Obrador's meddling in Peru's internal affairs as he refused to recognize Dina Boluarte as Peru's president and voiced his support for her predecessor Pedro Castillo. The motion also accused Lopez Obrador of refusing to hand over the presidency pro tempore of the Latin American trade organization Pacific Alliance to Peru's Boluarte.
