Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that it is "obvious" that the incident at the Makhachkala Airport in the predominantly Muslim Russian Republic of Dagestan "is largely the result of external interference."
Speaking to reporters, Peskov stressed that in a situation where TV channels show explicit videos and images of all the dramatic events in Gaza, "it is very easy for ill-wishers to abuse the situation, provoke it, and excite people."
On Sunday, several hundred people entered the airport building and the airfield looking for Israeli citizens who were expected to arrive on a regular flight from Tel Aviv.
