BRICS collaboration is not directed against any particular currency, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday, addressing claims that the bloc is planning to challenge the dollar's dominance.
"Cooperation within BRICS is not directed against anyone, against anything, neither against the dollar nor against other currencies. It pursues the main goal of ensuring the interests of those countries participating in this format," Peskov told RIA Novosti.
His remarks come after Russian President Vladimir Putin warned a few days ago of the risks of prematurely adopting a single currency among BRICS members. At that moment, Putin remarked that cooperation between central banks is more important to safeguard reliable national currencies without disrupting international financial systems.
