Around 30 protesters were detained on Wednesday as police moved to clear a pro-Palestinian encampment at George Washington University in Washington, DC. The Metropolitan Police Department said they proceeded with arrests after a "gradual escalation in the volatility of the protest."

Meanwhile, the university said it is "committed to protecting students’ rights to free expression" but that the encampment "evolved into an unlawful activity, with participants in direct violation of multiple university policies and city regulations."
