Poll: 54% of US voters say Trump should be charged

54% of Americans think former United States President Donald Trump should be prosecuted on criminal charges for his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election, according to a Quinnipiac poll on Wednesday. 95% of Democrats surveyed share this view, as well as 57% of independents, while only 12% of Republicans think Trump should face charges. 52% of respondents said the charges against Trump are "very serious," while another 12% said they are "somewhat serious."

Meanwhile, 57% of Republican and Republican-leaning voters said they support Trump as the GOP presidential nominee, followed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis at 18%. 72% of the Democrats backed US President Joe Biden, with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. backed by 13% of respondents. In a hypothetical presidential election, 47% of respondents would vote for Biden and 46% for Trump. The poll included 1,632 registered voters with a margin of error of 2.4 percentage points.
