Battery producer ProLogium and Mercedes-Benz have reached a technology cooperation agreement to develop solid-state battery cells for electric vehicles, the two companies declared on Thursday.
According to the published press releases, the first Mercedes-Benz trial vehicles powered by solid-state batteries will be presented in the next few years. Both conglomerates also agreed that the integration of solid-state battery technology into a range of passenger vehicles will occur in the second half of the decade.
“Solid-state technology helps to cut down battery size and weight. This is why we are partnering with companies like ProLogium to ensure that Mercedes-Benz continues to break new ground in the automotive sector - for the benefit of our customers,” said Markus Schäfer, Chief Technology Officer responsible for Development and Procurement of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG.
